Sitting on the windowsill, sat a fourteen year old girl. Her hair was a fiery, red with golden highlights. Her emerald green eyes were staring out into the place grounds, then farther out to the wall, then far beyond the wall was the town. She had a light blue, silk, shirt. That had only shoulder straps, pearl buttons ran down the front. A darker blue skirt flowed to one side of the sill. The girl was hugging her knees, as she looked out. Looking searching for something. A silver head band was in her hair.
Knock Knock knock!
“Go away.” The girl’s tone was desperate.
The door opened anyway. Sadly the girl looked the doors way, gasped and jumped off the sill.
“Trani-thon!!! Oh, Trani-thon!!” She ran into the arms of a sixteen year old boy. Long black hair hung in a pony tail, tied with cloth. A Dark green traveling coat was stained with mud. A scar that ran along his left eye down his cheek.
“Princess.” He said quietly.
“You never ask me to “go away.””
“I’m so sorry! I thought you were Tabitha the maid! She’s been pestering me all morning!” The girl looked up at Trani-thon’s face, arms still locked around his waist.
“You know I hate it when you call me that. And why did you take so long-” She stopped short. Trani-thon was crying! Tears spilled out of his pitch black eyes. They one by one dropped onto the young girl’s forehead. Her face showed puzzlement. Trani-thon held her tight against his body, the tears kept coming.
“Trani, why are you crying?” Her voice was muffled by the brown tunic of Trani-thon’s clothes.
I’ve got to be strong! Trani-thon scolded him self mentally. I’ve held in the hole way here. Why am I crying now? Because she’s here in front of me. Because she’s so innocent. Because I love her so much! I can’t believe I have to go through with this!
Trani-thon held the young girl who he had protected his hole life. The one who meant every thing to him. The one who he loved, and would protect with his life in a heartbeat.
“Trani-thon? I can’t breath.” The quiet voice brought him back to reality. He let her go instantly.
“Sorry.”
She looked at him with concern. They were kneeling on the floor.
“Trani….. Whats wrong? I’ve never seen you cry ever!” She put a soft, small hand on his wet cheek. Trani-thon’s eyes locked with hers.
“I’m crying because I’m scared, Celorbrin.” His voice was a whisper as he said her name.
“But your never scared!” Objected Celorbrin, her eyes showed that she did not under stand. Trani-thon put his big hand over hers.
“Celorbrin, I may not look it. But every time you are in danger I get really scared for you.”
“I’m….. In danger?”
“Kind of.”
“What do you MEAN?”
“Princess- I mean Celorbrin. You are being sent away, some were where you will be safe. But that place…..” Trani-thon knew he wasn’t making any sense to the little princess. But he could not bring him self to tell her what he meant with out crying again.
“I…………”
“Are you crying because your being sent away from. Me?” Celorbrin whispered.
“That also.” Trani-thon’s blood went cold at the thought. Celorbrin pulled her hand away and looked solemnly at Trani-thon.
“Tell me the Truth.”
When she used the Queen’s voice, as Trani-thon called it. That person HAD to do as he was told.
“You are being sent to Alimant to-” He couldn’t the tears were there, his head bowed. It hurt Celorbrin, seeing him in this emotional pain. But she had to know.
“To get married to Prince Falindor.” He whispered. Celorbrin’s face went pale. THAT’S why is hurt Trani-thon. He always hated the thought of her getting married. She was HIS girl in his mind. He had been with her ever since she had been born. Now, the thought of her getting married, to a foreigner; plus on top of that, the prospect of him NOT being able to be with her. Must be crushing him.
“Oh Trani-thon!” Celorbrin wrapped her arms around his neck. And he rested his head against her chest. Sobbing his eyes out, grieving, for what the future may hold for the two friends.
