Chapter 1
The New Place Again
16 year old Aurora sat under a tree. She had no Idea were she was. Only that she was in a wood, with the trees so close together that you could barely breath. The woods were silent and it was good that way she could think.
Aurora Had moved…… Again, she was tired of moving EVERY YEAR!
Yes, every year since her Mother had died Aurora had moved to a new place. Aurora had been born in Oregon, but her mother had died when Aurora was 7. Her father wanted to leave all the memories behind. They stayed in Logan, Idaho till Aurora was 8. Then Sheridan, Wyoming till 9. They had lived in Billings,Montana. Rapid, South Dakota. Rochester,Minnesota. Springfield,Illinois. Dayton,Detroit. And finally Buffalo. Oceanveiw Buffalo, it was showing the Atlantic ocean not the Pacific.
Aurora missed her mom if she hadn’t died Aurora would still be at Eugene, Oregon. She missed it, very badly. Aurora’s thoughts turned to her Grandmother. Grandma White-storm, the last of the Deepwater clan.
White-storm was the chieftainess of the clan, and chief warrior. The Deepwater clan had always had a woman for chief. If a man tried to take the place of chief he was burned to death. Grandma had two sons Uncle Timmy and Dad. Dad’s name was Strong-Storm. But he when by the name Jack because it was his middle name. Aurora had never met her Grandfather. He had died before Uncle Timmy had been born. And Uncle Timmy had died age 16 after Mother had been fostered into the family.
Father had been heart broken. He and his brother had always done every thing together. It was Mom who had comforted Dad in those days. She was and orphan and her parents had died when she was small in a car crash. Mom………….
Aurora found that she was crying tears had streamed down her face before she could stop them. She could cry here in the woods away from her father and the world.
A sob broke through her throat and she was sobbing before she knew it.
Her emotions had been getting out of hand. She would be sitting in a chair then suddenly she would be screaming and she never knew why.
Let them come Aurora thought crying always makes you feel better!
So she did.
“Are you okay?”
Aurora looked up. A boy was standing in front of her. He was the same age as her, with long hair the color of a night sky with out stars. His hair was in a side ponytail with the locks pouring down his right shoulder. He was wearing a Thick jacket in the cool air and jeans. His face was full of wonder and anxiety. But even still he was the most handsome boy she had ever seen in her life. Aurora wiped her red eyes with her hands.
“Are you lost?” The boy continued. Sounding very worried.
“Yes.” Aurora’s voice was cracked and she barely got the words out. Her throat was dry as a stone.
“To which one?” Aurora Smiled at his joke.
“Both.” She said her voice clearer.
“Oh.”
“I live in town.” She added. The boy laughed! It was warm and loud at the same time.
“Town?!? This is the Indian reserve!! you walked all the way here?!?”
“Oh! This is Bird Top?” Aurora’s father had told her about the reserve.
“Yup!” The odd boy said still chuckling.
“Sorry I did not know! I was just walking and then I got lost!” Aurora found her self babbling and blushing at the same time.
“It’s okay all new comers do that!” The boy laughed again then held out his hand to Aurora. She grasped it. It was so strong!! Yet warm and friendly at the same time. The boy helped her up.
“Come on, I know this place like the back of my hand! I’ll get you home.”
“Thanks My names Aurora Deepcreek you?” Aurora said has they walked.
“James Red. You seemed like an Native when I saw you!” James said with a wink.
“My grandmother was full native.” Aurora spoke proudly.
“Really? Was your grandfather native?”
“No he was white.”
“Oh…By the way I have a nickname! Mom called my Wolf-Boy.”
Really! My Grandmother had a nickname for me too! It was Wolf-Ann!” Aurora’s eyes sparkled.
“Grandma always wanted a Wolf-Ann.”
“Wolf-Ann and Wolf-Boy!” James mused.
“Sounds like we were meant for each other or some thing!”
“Yes it does!”
The Boy was silent as they continued. He was leading the way but he kept looking at her as they walked. In his head he was thinking.
‘ WOW! I have never seen such a beautiful girl in my life!’
They had been walking for some time and it was growing dark but they reached the line of house’s out side the town.
“My house is there..Do you want to come in?”
“Naw I’d better get home! Dad’s going to have a flipping heart attack when He finds out I’m late! Goodbye Aurora! I’ll see you some day soon!”
“Bye James!” The boy was gone. Feeling a lot better Aurora walked to her Home Happy.
